The Yeniseysk August Fair is a unique cultural event and reflects its origin purpose.
In the 17th century Yeniseysk was a capital of the Yeniseysk province and the largest regional trade center for selling furs and fish. In the beginning of August merchants from Moscow, Saint-Petersburg, Kazan, Novgorod, Vologda, Astrakhan, Irbit, Tobolsk, Irkutsk, Europe and Asia used to come to Yeniseysk to participate in the most famous Siberian fair by bringing and buying different goods.
Traditionally, the Yeniseysk August Fair was held since 1785 and revived in 2006. Today's August fair helps Yeniseysk to expand trade relations with other territories of the Krasnoyarsk region, attract investor's attention, and reveal its tourist potential.
The Yeniseysk August Fair became a central event in the town's cultural life famous for its vivid concert program and presented there decorative and applied art and handmade items: patchwork, birch, textile, lace and decorative ironwork pieces.
